Adolf Hitler’s last major offensive on the Western Front began on December 16, 1944, as 200,000 German soldiers attacked thinly held American positions in the forests of the Ardennes in Belgium and Luxembourg. The Germans struck hard, initially gaining successes against their surprised and often inexperienced opponents. Soon however, small units of G.I.s rallied to slow the enemy onslaught as reinforcements poured into the Ardennes.
For six bitter weeks, the two sides fought one the most grueling contests of the Second World War, ultimately involving nearly one million combatants and inflicting almost 200,000 casualties. The Battle of the Bulge was the largest engagement fought by the United States Army in World War Two, and it resulted in the defeat of Germany’s last reserves. The war in Europe would end less than four months later.
We are pleased to announce our upcoming Battle of the Bulge tour, scheduled for September 26 – October 4, 2025. Beginning with a visit to the excellent Royal Armed Forces Museum in Brussels, our weeklong itinerary includes numerous sites in Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg, where the valor and grit of the American soldier was pitted against the Wehrmacht’s desperate attempt to reverse the course of the war.
Today many areas of the Ardennes remain much as they were during World War Two: a region of villages, farms, and forests, where the events of 1944 rarely seem far away.

You will fly into Brussels International Airport (BRU), arriving September 27. That afternoon we will visit Belgium’s excellent Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, and the first night will be spent at our airport hotel. The next morning we board our coach for the journey to the battlefields of 1944. We will spend two nights in Malmedy and three nights in Bastogne, before returning to our airport hotel on the evening of October 3 and enjoying a farewell dinner on our last evening together.
Tour participants will depart their North American airports on September 26, 2025 for the overnight flight to Brussels. Your return date – the date you fly back to your North American airport, unless you decide to stay longer after the tour – is October 4.
Air Travel: Each tour participant will need to make their own flight arrangements to and from Brussels. Those who arrive at our airport hotel by 1:00 p.m. on September 27 can partake of our bus trip into Brussels to visit the Royal Armed Forces Museum.
On the Ground: Once you are booked, we will provide you with information concerning our group’s hotel by Brussels (BRU) Airport. As participants arrive throughout September 27, they will be able to check into a room in the afternoon (early check-in is not guaranteed by the hotel) and rest up, or participate in our visit to the Royal Armed Forces Museum. The next morning we board our coach for the Bulge battlefields. The next several days will be spent immersing ourselves in the events of 1944. On the return trip to Brussels on our final day we will make some additional stops of interest.
Coach Travel: Our tour will be conducted using a modern air conditioned coach. Depending upon numbers, it is possible (though unlikely) that you may seated next to another single traveler.
Accommodations: The hotels we are utilizing are all 3 or 4 star properties with an in-house restaurant, as well as other dining within walking distance.
Meals: Breakfasts are included with the tour, as well as two dinners plus box lunches on selected days. Other meals will be ‘on your own.’
Materials: Registered participants will receive an educational booklet containing maps, historical and travel information that will enhance your experience.
Health: Please be certain to check with your health insurer to determine whether their coverage extends to travel in Europe. If not, or if you desire additional coverage, you are strongly urged to consider obtaining travel insurance, which can also cover you for matters like luggage loss or damage, trip cancellation, etc.
Covid-19: At this time Belgium does not require proof of vaccination for entry.
Personal Mobility: Please note that while our itinerary is not excessively strenuous, it will on occasion involve standing or walking for up to 20 minutes at a time. Terrain can include woods, fields, inclines, and stairs. It is imperative that you advise us if you or any member of your travel party has a physical disability or other medical condition that might inhibit full participation in the tour, as we may not be able to provide the necessary assistance required. If in any doubt about how a disability might impact participation and enjoyment of the tour, we strongly encourage you to contact us so we may discuss whether this trip is suitable for your situation.

September 26: Tour participants depart their North American airports for (overnight) flights to Brussels.
September 27: Participants arrive at our Brussels airport hotel throughout the morning. At 1:00 p.m., we visit the Royal Armed Forces & Military History Museum in downtown Brussels before returning to our hotel in the evening. [Night at Brussels Airport hotel]
September 28: We depart Brussels first thing, heading for the infamous Hürtgen Forest where we will examine the daunting terrain and discuss the intense fighting that led survivors to call the woodland “the Death Factory.” In the evening we enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. September 29: Beginning our look at the Battle of the Bulge, we explore the northern shoulder of the German offensive including the action at the Twin Villages and the doomed defense of the Schnee Eifel by the unlucky US 106th Division, culminating in the largest surrender of American troops in the European theater. [Night at Malmedy hotel]
September 30: Our route will follow Kampfgruppe Peiper, from Lanzerath – where one American platoon held up the German advance for most of a day – through the site of the infamous Malmedy Massacre, and on to the disastrous climax around La Gleize that saw the virtual annihilation of the SS battle group. [Night at Bastogne hotel]
October 1: Our focus is on the beginning of the German attack toward Bastogne and the bloody delaying actions fought by US forces east of the key crossroads town. Our stops include the Our River panzer crossing at Dasburg, picturesque Clervaux with its castle, and the bloody battleground of Noville. [Night at Bastogne hotel]
October 2: The siege of Bastogne demands our attention this day, taking in the Bois Jacques / Foy area where Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry famously fought, the US Memorial on Mardasson Hill, and other key sites. Later, we follow the 4th Armored Division’s desperate effort to relieve the Bastogne garrison. [Night at Bastogne hotel]
October 3: After checking out of our Bastogne hotel, we visit additional Bulge sites as we make our way north, and pay our respects to our war dead at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, before arriving at our Brussels Airport hotel, where we will enjoy a farewell dinner. October 4: Return flights to North America.
Peiper’s Route: We will follow SS-Lt. Col. Jochen Peiper’s armored battle group in its effort to achieve a quick breakthrough and capture bridges over the Meuse River. Our route will take us from Lanzerath – where fewer than two dozen G.I.s fought a German battalion, becoming the most decorated platoon in the U. S. Army in the process – to the area around La Gleize, where Peiper’s column ground to a halt and where we will view the restored ‘King Tiger’ tank, a veteran of the battle.
Schnee Eifel: The inexperienced men of the 106th Division had been on the front line for just five days when the Germans struck them on the first day of their offensive. Many of the greenhorns fought hard, but much of the unit was surrounded and captured in the rugged hills of the Schnee Eifel, the largest haul of American POWs the Germans took during the war. We will explore the villages and forests where the ‘Golden Lion’ division was destroyed, and learn their tragic story.
Krinkelt-Rocherath: The ‘Twin Villages’ saw ferocious house-to-house fighting in the early days of the Ardennes Offensive. The outcome of this struggle helped secure the ‘Northern Shoulder’ of the Bulge, and with it the American victory.
The Hürtgen Forest: A place the veterans remembered as “Green Hell” and the “Death Factory.” Fought north of the Ardennes from September to December 1944, the desperate contest in the Hürtgen is often overshadowed by the Battle of the Bulge, yet it was the U. S. Army’s longest battle of the European Theater – and one that might have been avoided. We will view the difficult terrain and nearly impenetrable woodland, the concrete ‘dragon’s teeth’, bunkers, and other remnants of Hitler’s West Wall (the ‘Siegfried Line’).
Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery:
Fittingly, the last stop of our tour will be at this beautiful and humbling cemetery near Liège, where the cost of victory becomes starkly apparent in the rows of gleaming crosses and Stars of David.

Bastogne: The most famous town in the Ardennes, Bastogne is a major road junction, a place the Germans had to capture. The “Screaming Eagles” of the 101st Airborne, along with troops of the 10th Armored Division and other units, stubbornly defended Bastogne in a weeklong siege that has gone down in the annals of the American military experience. Our stops include the Mardasson American Memorial; positions held by the men of Easy Company, 506th P.I.R. (the ‘Band of Brothers’) in the Bois Jacques; Noville, where a U.S. combat team fought a bitter delaying action; and many other points of interest.
Malmedy: A name forever linked with the massacre of over eighty American POWs at the hands of the SS. We will visit the field at nearby Baugnez where this infamous war crime occurred and pay our respects at the memorial there.
St. Vith: Another key crossroads, where a hodge-podge of U. S. units mounted a tenacious defense that seriously delayed the German offensive for critical days, decisively altering the outcome of the campaign.
Clervaux: The “Luxembourg Alamo.” Picturesque Clervaux with its 12th century castle was the scene of desperate fighting between men of the 28th ‘Keystone’ Division (Pennsylvania National Guard) and Gen. Manteuffel’s panzer troops.
Please note that spaces will be reserved on a ‘first-come, first served’ basis. It is our intention to limit the size of our Bulge tour group to ensure that we have an intimate and manageable group number, increasing your enjoyment of the trip. You are urged to reserve your space as early as possible. Battleground Tours reserves the right to cancel any tour if insufficient bookings are received, rendering it impossible to provide the tour as advertised. In such a case, notification of cancellation will be provided at the earliest possible time, and no later than 60 days from the first scheduled day of the tour. We also reserve the right to cancel a tour for reasons beyond our control that render us incapable of providing said tour as advertised.
Costs / Deposit:
The total cost of this tour is $2,950 per person, based on double occupancy. If a single room is desired, the supplement is $460. As the number of single rooms is limited, please be sure to indicate this preference when you send your deposit.
A deposit of $250 per person is required to book your place on the tour. Should you have to cancel your booking, your deposit is fully refundable up to 90 days prior to the first day of the tour (September 26, 2025), less a $45 per person administrative charge. See below for more cancellation information.
Any deposit received after the tour spaces are fully filled will be immediately returned to the sender.
Fifty percent of the balance of the tour price is due before July 15, 2025. The remaining balance of the tour price must be received no later than September 1, 2025. Please make note of these dates, reminders will not be sent. Payment may be made via PayPal using our webpage (see Forms & Payment below) or if preferred, by check payable to ‘Stuart R. Dempsey.’ Upon receiving any payment, you will promptly be sent a statement of receipt via email (or by U. S. Mail if requested).

Cancellation: If it becomes necessary for you to cancel your trip, you may do so at any time, subject to terms and conditions listed below. Because we incur costs in processing your travel arrangements, you will have to pay applicable charges as follows:

The date of cancellation is considered to be the date upon which we receive notification. Written notice of cancellation must be made by the individual who made the booking (or, if not possible, by next of kin.) Verbal notice of cancellation may be accepted only under certain emergency circumstances, as determined by us.
Any booking status changes requested by our clients will be made when possible, though these cannot be guaranteed. If we can make such changes easily, we will not charge for doing so, but we reserve the right to apply a fee of up to $25 for doing so if necessary.
We want your tour to be as personally enjoyable and meaningful as possible, so any special requests concerning the tour will be honored wherever possible, but are not guaranteed. Such requests must be provided in writing at the time the booking is made, or at the earliest possible date prior to the tour. If an additional charge is required to meet a request, we will advise you of it.
Passports and Documents: Citizens of the United States and Canada must have a valid passport to enter Europe. The expiration date of your passport must be more than 180 days after our date of departure (thus, it must be valid until at least May 27, 2026). You are responsible for having and bringing an up to date passport, and we assume no responsibility if you fail to do so and cannot travel as a result.
ETIAS: Starting in 2025, Belgium along with other EU countries will begin requiring completion of an online questionnaire prior to entering the country from any non-EU country. This is similar to current USA requirements already in place for foreign travelers. The questionnaire is known as ETIAS; you will need your passport and internet access and is estimated to take about 10 minutes to complete. This is very important as you will not be able to travel to Belgium without it. The ETIAS website is: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en NOTE: As of November 2024 a start date for ETIAS has yet to be announced; we will keep you up to date when you are booked for the tour.
Physical/Medical Considerations: Our Bulge tour will require some mild walking, including woods, fields, and steps. Tour participants must be able to stand and walk for 20 minutes at a time without rest or assistance. While the itinerary is not strenuous, you should take these considerations into account before making your booking. You must provide us with notice of disabilities/medical conditions that might impact your travel at the time you book the tour (or, if newly diagnosed, as early as possible prior to the tour date). We do not accept any liability for your failure to inform us of limiting conditions, and reserve the right to reject any booking from any person who has not notified us of relevant disabilities or who we deem insufficiently fit to participate.
Behavior: You are responsible for your conduct and that of anyone in your travel party that you have booked. We reserve the right to refuse to book, or to remove from the tour, you or any member of your party, if your behavior or that of a member of your party, is dangerous, disrespectful to other people, or otherwise disruptive. We will not provide a refund or pay any costs incurred by you under these circumstances.
Travel insurance: We strongly urge all participants to obtain travel insurance prior to the tour. You will typically receive the best rates and coverage by purchasing travel insurance as soon as you book the tour. You can determine the level of coverage you require, but it should include items such as emergency trip cancellation and personal property protection, and applicable medical insurance (you should check with your health insurer to determine if your medical coverage is valid in Europe).

We will provide booked participants with electronic informational newsletters prior to the trip, including logistics, travel suggestions, and the like. We want you to be an informed traveler!
We reserve the right to make modifications to any aspect of the tour itinerary as deemed appropriate by the tour director/guide.
While we will of course make every effort to fulfill our obligations to our clients regarding all aspects of the advertised tour, we can assume no liability for damage, loss, or expense caused by events or circumstances beyond our control (‘Force Majeure’). Please note that spaces will be reserved on a ‘first-come, first served’ basis. It is our intention to limit the size of our Bulge tour group to ensure that we have an intimate and manageable group number, increasing your enjoyment of the trip. You are urged to reserve your space as early as possible. Battleground Tours reserves the right to cancel any tour if insufficient bookings are received, rendering it impossible to provide the tour as advertised. In such a case, notification of cancellation will be provided at the earliest possible time, and no later than 60 days from the first scheduled day of the tour. We also reserve the right to cancel a tour for reasons beyond our control that render us incapable of providing said tour as advertised.
Costs / Deposit:
The total cost of this tour is $2,950 per person, based on double occupancy. If a single room is desired, the supplement is $460. As the number of single rooms is limited, please be sure to indicate this preference when you send your deposit.
A deposit of $250 per person is required to book your place on the tour. Should you have to cancel your booking, your deposit is fully refundable up to 90 days prior to the first day of the tour (September 26, 2025), less a $45 per person administrative charge. See below for more cancellation information.
Any deposit received after the tour spaces are fully filled will be immediately returned to the sender.
Fifty percent of the balance of the tour price is due before July 15, 2025. The remaining balance of the tour price must be received no later than September 1, 2025. Please make note of these dates, reminders will not be sent. Payment may be made via PayPal using our webpage (see Forms & Payment below) or if preferred, by check payable to ‘Stuart R. Dempsey.’ Upon receiving any payment, you will promptly be sent a statement of receipt via email (or by U. S. Mail if requested).
Booking requests must be made via our booking form. Be sure to fill this out completely.
Cancellation: If it becomes necessary for you to cancel your trip, you may do so at any time, subject to terms and conditions listed below. Because we incur costs in processing your travel arrangements, you will have to pay applicable charges as follows:

The date of cancellation is considered to be the date upon which we receive notification. Written notice of cancellation must be made by the individual who made the booking (or, if not possible, by next of kin.) Verbal notice of cancellation may be accepted only under certain emergency circumstances, as determined by us.
Any booking status changes requested by our clients will be made when possible, though these cannot be guaranteed. If we can make such changes easily, we will not charge for doing so, but we reserve the right to apply a fee of up to $25 for doing so if necessary.
We want your tour to be as personally enjoyable and meaningful as possible, so any special requests concerning the tour will be honored wherever possible, but are not guaranteed. Such requests must be provided in writing at the time the booking is made, or at the earliest possible date prior to the tour. If an additional charge is required to meet a request, we will advise you of it.
Passports and Documents: Citizens of the United States and Canada must have a valid passport to enter Europe. The expiration date of your passport must be more than 180 days after our date of departure (thus, it must be valid until at least May 27, 2026). You are responsible for having and bringing an up to date passport, and we assume no responsibility if you fail to do so and cannot travel as a result.
ETIAS: Starting in 2025, Belgium along with other EU countries will begin requiring completion of an online questionnaire prior to entering the country from any non-EU country. This is similar to current USA requirements already in place for foreign travelers. The questionnaire is known as ETIAS; you will need your passport and internet access and is estimated to take about 10 minutes to complete. This is very important as you will not be able to travel to Belgium without it. The ETIAS website is: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en NOTE: As of November 2024 a start date for ETIAS has yet to be announced; we will keep you up to date when you are booked for the tour.
Physical/Medical Considerations: Our Bulge tour will require some mild walking, including woods, fields, and steps. Tour participants must be able to stand and walk for 20 minutes at a time without rest or assistance. While the itinerary is not strenuous, you should take these considerations into account before making your booking. You must provide us with notice of disabilities/medical conditions that might impact your travel at the time you book the tour (or, if newly diagnosed, as early as possible prior to the tour date). We do not accept any liability for your failure to inform us of limiting conditions, and reserve the right to reject any booking from any person who has not notified us of relevant disabilities or who we deem insufficiently fit to participate.
Behavior: You are responsible for your conduct and that of anyone in your travel party that you have booked. We reserve the right to refuse to book, or to remove from the tour, you or any member of your party, if your behavior or that of a member of your party, is dangerous, disrespectful to other people, or otherwise disruptive. We will not provide a refund or pay any costs incurred by you under these circumstances.
Travel insurance: We strongly urge all participants to obtain travel insurance prior to the tour. You will typically receive the best rates and coverage by purchasing travel insurance as soon as you book the tour. You can determine the level of coverage you require, but it should include items such as emergency trip cancellation and personal property protection, and applicable medical insurance (you should check with your health insurer to determine if your medical coverage is valid in Europe).
Tour Information:
We will provide booked participants with electronic informational newsletters prior to the trip, including logistics, travel suggestions, and the like. We want you to be an informed traveler!
We reserve the right to make modifications to any aspect of the tour itinerary as deemed appropriate by the tour director/guide.
While we will of course make every effort to fulfill our obligations to our clients regarding all aspects of the advertised tour, we can assume no liability for damage, loss, or expense caused by events or circumstances beyond our control (‘Force Majeure’). Force Majeure is defined as unforeseeable or unavoidable situation(s) beyond our control including but not limited to: war, civil unrest, terrorism, strike/labor dispute, natural disaster, flood, earthquake, volcanic eruption, fire, adverse weather conditions, nuclear disaster, or the threat of any of these occurrences.
