The Second Battle of Manassas September 13th - 14th 2025
Second Manassas (a.k.a. Second Bull Run) was a sprawling clash that involved over 100,000 soldiers, cemented R. E. Lee’s reputation as a bold commander, and led to his climactic invasion of Maryland – an operation that was destined to become one of the turning points of the war. Places such as Brawner Farm, the Deep Cut, and Chinn Ridge witnessed fighting of extraordinary ferocity, turning bucolic patches of the Virginia countryside into hallowed fields of sacrifice.
Our tour will spend the better part of two days exploring the key battle areas, tramping the sites – many in fine preservation – where U.S. and Confederate forces engaged in bitter combat.
We hope you will join us as we explore the fascinating story of this often-overlooked battle.

Registered tour participants should plan to arrive at the Hampton Inn Manassas, 7295 Williamson Blvd, Manassas, VA by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13 (if you do not arrive the previous evening). We will meet in the lobby, have an introductory talk, then board the coach for the battlefield.
We will do considerable walking on the tour, mostly on trails and occasionally fields; most ground we traverse is relatively level. Tour participants must be able to stand and walk for twenty minutes at a time without rest or assistance. Our longest walk will be just over one mile on a trail; those unable to participate may opt out of it, with the understanding that some tour content will be missed.
At the conclusion of our tour in the early afternoon on September 14, we will return to the Hampton Inn and disperse.
Saturday, September 13: After assembling at the Hampton Inn, we begin our look at Second Manassas with an introductory talk, followed by a visit to Brawner Farm where the largely inexperienced men of the soon-to-be Iron Brigade stood tall in a slugfest with Stonewall Jackson’s veterans. After lunch, we examine the repeated Federal attempts to drive Jackson’s troops from their position in the Unfinished Railroad – attacks that bent but failed to break the Confederate line.
Sunday, September 14: This morning we explore the complex events of August 30 – the final day of the battle. Beginning with the massive Federal assault on the Deep Cut area, we transition to Longstreet’s offensive, the blow that brought victory to the Army of Northern Virginia – albeit not before some of the most intense fighting of the war on Chinn Ridge and Henry Hill took a heavy toll on both sides. We conclude in the early afternoon, returning to the Hampton Inn to disperse.
*Itinerary is subject to modification if deemed necessary by tour director/guide.
